Abstract/Contents:Presents research in progress at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst to "use selected plant species in a field study to evaluate the efficacy of VFS [vegetative filter strips] and their most effective arragement...[And to] determine the fate of pesticides retained in VFS and the major mechanisms of degradation." Details the materials and methods used in the study, stating that "a runon plot consisting of 12 VFS was established. Each VFS had a 5% slope and was lined with an impermeable liner." Overviews future research priorities for the University, noting that "six pesticides used in the greenhouse study, plus cyfluthrin, will be used in the VFS runon field trials."
