| Abstract/Contents: | 1988 study to determine the efficacy of selected chemicals in control of leaf spot of Kenblue Kentucky bluegrass. Fungicide treatments were evaluated for leaf spot prevention on a Kentucky bluegrass turf at the University of Kentucky Spindletop Research Farm near Lexington. The turfgrass was maintained at a 2 in. mowing height, received 2.0 lb of nitrogen annually, was not irrigated, and otherwise received conventional maintenance. Each treatment was replicated four times in a randomized complete block design with 6 ft by 10 ft plots. Treatments were applied using a hand pumped solo backpack sprayer with a 6 ft. four nozzle boom delivering 2 gal/1000 sq ft and operating at 25 psi. Applications were made at biweekly intervals on 8 and 22 April, and 4 and 17 May, 1988. Plots were evaluated by estimation the percentage of leaf spot infected leaves in each plot on 6 May. A table provides treatmens, application rates and percent of leafspot on May 6. Disease pressure was relatively low; nevertheless, significant differences in disease levels did occur. the treatments containing iron left the turfgrass noticeably darker green in color. The formaldehyde treatment caused a gradual thinning of the turf which recovered after applications ceased. |
