Abstract/Contents:Presents research conducted to evaluate perennial ryegrass varieties for rapid blight resistance. Details the materials and methods used in the study, stating that "field trials were establsihed...on a large practice tee known to be infested with Labyrinthula terrestris, the rapid blight pathogen." Reports that "in all trials conducted over the three-year period, there was no significant difference in the percent of successful plot overseed establishment." Discusses laboratory screening for susceptibility to rapid blight, and concludes that "using a standardized laboratory assay to determine varietal susceptibility to rapid blight will be useful for testing large numbers of varieties more quickly and differentiating effects of rapid blight and salinity of individual turfgrasses."
