Abstract/Contents:"CGA-16935 (ethyl 4-cyclopropyl(hydroxy)methylene-3, 5-dioxocyclohexanecarboxylate) is a plant growth regulator which decreases the rate of foliar elongation of warm- and cool-season turfgrasses. CGA-163935 reduces cell elongation by inhibiting gibberellic acid biosythesis. CGA-163935 has proved to be an effective product in reducing the frequency of mowing and the amount of clippings produced by the turf. It can also be used to minimize the need for edging turfgrasses. CGA-163935 is very effective on fast-growing southern turfgrasses such as St. Augustinegrass (Stenotaphrum secundatum [Walt.] Kuntz), bahiagrass (Paspalum notatum Fluegge), and bermudagrass (Cynodon Dactylon [L.] Pers.). It is effective on cool season grasses such as tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.), perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.), and Kentucky bluegrass ) Poa pratensis L.). CGA-163935 can reduce mowings and clippings by 40-50% for four weeks in highly maintained turfgrass at rates of 300-400 g ai/ha. Higher rates of 600-800 g ai/ha can reduce mowings and clippings for up to eight weeks. CGA-163935, when applied in a 30 cm band at the edge of lawns, can reduce the extension of turfgrass stolons thereby minimizing the need for mechanically edging the perimeters of a lawn. Various formulations will be available. A 1 lb active ingredient/gallon MEC will be for use on highly maintained turfgrass found on golf courses, sod farms, and lawns. A 2 lb active ingredient/gallon EC will be for use on low maintenance turfgrass found along roadsides, parks, and commercial/municipal property. A more dilute formulation will be used by homeowners to decrease the need of edging along curbs, fences and flower beds. CGA-13935 can be used without an adjuvant and can be tank-mixed with other commonly used turf pesticides. Applications are rainfast within one hour after application because CGA-163935 is foliarly absorbed."
