Abstract/Contents:Discusses the process of selecting a turfgrass species for reestablishing golf greens at the 2011 United States Open Championship in Bethesda, Maryland. States that "the weather conditions and the grass species on the greens were just two of the deciding factors for reconstructing the greens." Mentions the soil structure of the greens, and reports that a blend of Penn A-1 and Penn A-4 bentgrass was the final selection for the greens, while Penncross was used for the collars and tees. Adds that "the fairways consist of a variety of bentgrasses...The rough was grassed with a combination of turf-type tall fescues and Kentucky bluegrass." Concludes that choosing turfgrasses that are able to withstand daily maintenance practices was essential to the decision.
