Abstract/Contents: | To take the guess work out of selecting Kentucky bluegrass varieties follow these steps: 1. Utilize economically priced varieties for blending. 2. A basic rule of blending for color would be not to select varieties with extreme light and dark green color for use in the same blend. 3. Aggressiveness can be defined as the ability of a variety to crowd out weeds and other components of the blend or mixture. Aggressive varieties are an advantage when used on heavily trafficked areas. 4. All varieties have strengths and weaknesses concerning disease resistance. Therefore selecting components for blending should be based on their ability to complement each other. A table provides color, width, aggressiveness, and disease ratings. |
