Abstract/Contents:"Most people tend to take a somewhat nonchalant attitude towards their lawn, which is left to its own devices and attended to only at the whim of the lawn-mower. In the world of sport, the role of a groundsman is a vital one. The success of the game depends to a great extent on the preparation of the playing surface. In this instance, the lawn requires maximum care and attention to maintain it in peak condition." The superintendent starts early and informs everyone of their jobs. The use of machinery is taught and taken very seriously. Maintaining the greens is also an important job that is taken to the extreme." The approach areas are maintained almost as thoroughly as the greens. A practice of regular close mowing and fertilising is also necessary, as the approaches are used almost as extensively as the greens. Tees are subject to constant heavy wear and tear, and the surface receives greater punishment than any other areas on the course. Bunkers are as important as any other part of the course, and as such must be kept reasonably tidy and well maintained." Floods from other area rivers are another worry that golf owners think about. To conclude, the workers are very comforting and informative.
