Abstract/Contents: | With the boom in the construction of sports, amenity and landscaping areas showing no signs of diminishing, demand for grass seed continues to increase. Seed breeders have made considerable efforts to develop new varieties which will give both specifer and grounds manager the turf he requires, whether the overriding factor be economy or high quality. This includes a survey of the most recent introductions from major grass seed suppliers including Johnson Seeds, Inter Seeds, Rigby Taylor's, British Seed Houses, Scottish Agricultural Industries, Hunters of Chester, ICI Seeds UK, Supaturf Products, Mommersteeg and Lindum Turf. Vaieties are chosen for disease resistance, winter hardiness, drought tolerance, growth pattern, colour and high germination levels. |
