Abstract/Contents:Ammonium sulphate, urea or calcium ammonium nitrate were applied separately to Agrostis palustris [stolonifera] cv. Penncross turf over 4 years at 2 rates, 240 and 360 kg N/ha per year and with 0, 250 or 750 kg superphosphate/ha per year. In an additional treatment lime was applied to plots receiving ammonium sulphate to raise the pH by one unit. Results are tabulated for general overall appearance together with measurements of thatch development, pH, yield of clippings, dry matter of clippings, the incidence of weeds, moss, algal slime, Fusarium nivale [micronectriella nivalis], yellow tuft disease (Sclerophthora macrospora) and estimates of color and density. The best quality turf was obtained with the high rate of ammonium sulphate applied with lime. The different rates of superphosphate made no difference to quality except for the highest rate which gave improved quality in the final year.
