Abstract/Contents:A method of control of M. oreades is described in which the turf is killed or removed and the soil then thoroughly cultivated with a rotary cultivator to mix mycelium-infested soil rings with clean soil. This method is based on the observation that there is mutual inhibition between isolates and also self-inhibition by fungal metabolites. Dry areas should be thoroughly soaked at this time to enhance activity of other fungi and bacteria which destroy M. oreades. Reseeding should be followed by good management (particularly irrigation) which reduces the possibility of reinfestation. This method was used successfully on 4 lawns. Reseeding is preferred to returfing because of the risk of reinfection in the latter method.
