Abstract/Contents:1989 update of quality evaluation of several grass, seed, and sedge ornamentals obtained from a nursery, garden center or roadsides and established in Kentucky near Lexington in 1987, 1988, or 1989. These crowns or rhizomes of each species were planted in groups 10 feet apart in a well-drained Maury silt loam soil located in full sun. Irrigation and fertilizer is applied as needed. Evaluations are made several times annually on aggressiveness, foliage color, height, inflorescence and overall attractiveness. Tables summarize: 1) new plantings during 1989, 2) 1989 spring, summer, and fall quality, month of initial bloom, and aggressiveness for grasses characterized as large (>4'), medium (2'-4') or small (<2'), 3) brief descriptions of best ornamental grasses, and 4) grasses that died since transplanting.
