Abstract/Contents:1983 study to determine if metribuzin (Sencore) could be effectively used for postemergence control or goosegrass. (In 1983, metribuzin did not have Kentucky registration, although it was labeled in several southern states). The site selected for this test was a Midiron bermudagrass football field that had been sprigged on June 22, 1983. By the time the treatments were applied on August 1, 1983, the goosegrass was fairly mature and competing seriously with the bermudagrass. The treatments included three replications of three rates of metribuzin, two rates of metribuzin in combination with MSMA, and one rate of MSMA. Visual ratings were made on August 10 and September 12, 1983. All treatments at least doubled the bermudagrass coverage by September 12 and decreased the percent goosegrass by 50% or greater. Although initial bermudagrass discoloration was very severe with the higher rates of metribuzin, the recovery was excellent. A summary showing the effect of postemergence treatments on goosegrass and bermudagrass color and cover is presented.
