| Abstract/Contents: | 1988 update of 2 tests to compare endophyte-infected fescue varieties with their respective endophyte-free varieties. Test 1 was established 9/85 and includes 8 varieties of tall fescue. The tall fescues were seeded at 5 pounds/1000 square feet. Three pounds per 1000 square feet of nitrogen have been applied annually. The mowing height is maintained at 2.5 inches. A table provides botanical counts and 1987-88 annual and 2-year average visual quality ratings. Test 2 was established 9/86 and includes 12 varieties of tall, hard, and chewings fescue. Seeding rates and maintenance are as for test 1. Mowing height is 2.0 inches. A table provides 1987-88 annual and 2-year average visual quality ratings. For both tests, quality of non-infected varieties was not significantly different (P<.05) from infected varieties, although, except for Kenwell tall fescue, non-infected varieties generally had slightly lower ratings. Botanical counts did not appear to be related to endophyte infection. |
