Abstract/Contents: | The operations needed for the maintenance of the sward on ski-runs is discussed. Re-seeding of dead areas as soon as possible in the spring, regular fertilizer applications (not exclusively mineral) several times a year, and keeping the sward short either by mowing or grazing are desirable. In these mountain conditions (1700-2300 m) seed mixtures containing numerous spp. proved better than those with only a few. Subsequent maintenance costs are lower where there are a high proportion (< 30%) legumes. Cvs of grasses did not do so well as the spp. from which they were derived. |
