| Abstract/Contents: | 1986 update of 2 National Kentucky Bluegrass Variety tests maintained near Lexington KY. Test 1, established 9/80, includes 88 named and experimental varieties in three replications. Three pounds of nitrogen per 1000 square feet have been applied annually during the fall and early winter. To obtain maximum stress, the plots are not irrigated and are mowed at a 1.5 inch height. 1982-86 annual and five-year average visual quality ratings (1 to 9; 9=best qualtiy) with least significant difference value for 1986 are provided in a table. 5-year average ratings ranged from 4.0 (WW Ag 480) to 6.6 (I-13). Test 2, established, 9/85, includes 74 named and experimental varieties and is maintained in the same manner as test 1. A table provides 1986 average visual quality ratings, % ground cover on 4/30, and color (1 to 5, 5=darkest green) on 7/25 with least significant difference values. America had best performance (visual quality 6.8, 95% cover, 3.0 color), and Welcome had worst (visual quality 3.3, 53% cover, 3.7 color). |
