Abstract/Contents:Twenty-three Lolium perenne cvs were tested. Cvs He 136 and Hunter were the least damaged by Fusarium nivale [Micronectriella nivalis] (75.0% and 77.5%, respectively) and cvs LP 272 and Jorktown the most severely damaged (each 95%). After 3 seasons, invasion by Poa annua was greatest with Jorktown (50%) and least with Hunter, Player and Score (5%). Ground cover was greatest with Player and Hunter and least with Jorktown and Derby. The root mass in the top 0-2 cm was greatest with Hunter and smallest with Arno. The sward shear strength was highest with Jorktown and Player and lowest with Ensporta and Score. There was no correlation between root mass and shear strength because of the dense loamy soil.
