Abstract/Contents: | The salt tolerance of the various grass spp. was of the same order as in the earlier years [see previous abstract], except that damage was less due to the higher rainfall dissolving the salt from the plants: plant recovery was therefore greater and no plants were actually killed. However, this recovery was not sufficient to give a sward as good as that of the untreated controls. Even the lower salt rates produced some growth reduction which was accentuated in the second year, indicating a possible cumulative effect from repeated use of road salt. Poa pratensis cv. Skofti showed the greatest salt tolerance. |
