| Abstract/Contents: | Summarizes 2 1986 tests at a Kentucky location to evaluate several herbicides and spray volumes for wild violet control. The dense, mature stand of violets was mowed weekly at 3.0 inches. Test 1 was initiated in May 1986 and will continue through 1987. Three replications of six chemicals (Turflon D, Turflon amine, Garlon ester, Garlon amine, Trimec ester, Trimec amine) alone or in combination, applied on five dates, are being evaluated. Chemicals and rates are presented. Ratings for the fall application will be made in April 1987. A summary of ratings for the spring/summer treatments is presented. Results indicated that excellent violet control is being obtained with one repeat treatment of triclopyr, regardless of formulation. Test 2 (same chemicals as in Test 1) evaluates the effect of spray volume. Three treatment replications were applied on June 6 at 5 GPA and 50 GPA. Evaluations are presented. Results indicated that only small differences in violet control occurred when using 5 or 50 gallons per acre with the ester formulations. However, the amine formulations of triclopyr were much less effective at the lower spray volume. |
