Abstract/Contents:Discusses topsoil quality influence on turfgrass selection and management. Overviews experiments that investigate common home lawn grasses maintained with different mowing heights and fertilizer rates. Addresses homeowners' tendency to use grass varieties such as Kentucky bluegrass because they are recommended for seasonal lawns, without considering the required level of maintenance. Explains that Kentucky bluegrass is easily maintained in larger facilities with more resources, and recommends that homeowners use tall fescue instead of elite Kentucky bluegrass as it may be easier to maintain.
