| Abstract/Contents: | Evaluated 7 fungicides (Bayleton, Banner, Rubigan, Daconil 2787, Chipco 26019, RP 26019, and Benlate) for control of dollar spot in creeping bentgrass. Plots were established on creeping bentgrass 'Penncross' turf at Spindletop Farm, KY. The turf received conventional care (minimum nitrogen fertilization, 1/4 inch cutting height). Fungicide treatments were applied at 25 psi with a backpack sprayer equipped with a 6 ft boom having 4 nozzles and delivering 2 gal/1000 sq ft. Treatments were applied to 6 ft x 10 ft plots arranged in a randomized complete block design with 4 replications. Plots were treated May 12 and 26, Jun 9 and 23, and Jul 7. One of the Banner treatments was made May 12 and 26 only, and RP 26019 treatments were not begun until Jun 9. Plots were evaluated Jun 15 and Jul 11 for number of centers of dollar spot infection/plot. Plots were not showing dollar spot symptoms at the beginning of the test, however, the disease gradually became very active in the untreated plots as the season progressed. All fungicides tested gave some degree of control of the disease with Bayleton, Banner, Rubigan (0.32 oz), Daconil 2787 (6.0 oz) and Chipco 26019 being most effective. Fungicide, formulations, spray rates and results are presented in a table. |
