| Abstract/Contents: | 1983 update of test established in 9/81 which includes seven seeding rates of Rebel ranging from 1 to 20 pounds of seed per 1000 square feet. The four replications are maintained at a 1.5 inch mowing height with three pounds of nitrogen per 1000 square feet being applied annually in the fall and early winter. For the 1983 data, quality ratings were taken monthly May through July, October, and November. Texture ratings were made twice in May and again in November. Visual ratings on red thread were taken May 5 and on brown patch, July 15. Botanical counts were made in November 1983 and counted from four, 4-inch diameter plugs collected from non-diseased areas. Results of the Rebel tall fescue seed rates are presented (visual quality and texture ratings; percent of plot affected by red thread; percent of turf loss; percent of plot affected by Brown patch; number of tillers per sq in. of surface). Quality was best at intermediate seeding rates (2,4, or 6 16 lb/1000 ft2) but texture and tiller density were greatest at the highest seeding rate (20 lb/1000ft2). Disease incidence and turf decline increased with increasing seed rate. |
