| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the turfgrass cultivars Diamond zoysia grass and Tifton 10 bermudagrass which were well-received at the 2011 Professional Golfer's Association (PGA) Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club (AAC). Details that Ken Magum, director of golf courses and grounds at AAC, stated that member satisfaction and savings are what made the new grasses so successful. States that "the zoysia is more tightly knit. For the average golfer, it doesn't produce nearly as big and ugly a divot when they hit off, but the ball carries farther for most of their clubs, particularly the driver, the woods and the long irons." Explains that from a maintenance and environmental viewpoint the club has realized that the greens require less mowing and inputs. Concludes that the golf club also utilizes cutting-edge sustainability practices. |
