Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the decline in university research money and how it affects programs, students, and the golf industry. Explains that researchers are competing for dollars from different sources and have had to adapt to funding their studies in other ways. Details how state budgets have cut from university graduate programs and staff. Stated by Brian Horgan of the University of Minnesota, "One of the biggest challenges at universities across the country, because of the declining support from state governments, is the cost of all sorts of items are increasing, it is very expensive to train graduate students. If you bring on a student who completes both a masters and a Ph.D., you're looking at almost a quarter of a million dollars just to have the student, without even paying for any of the research itself." |
