| Abstract/Contents: | Reports that many of the 204 synthetic turf sports fields in New York City are wearing rapidly. Details the turf issues at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, focusing on the many holes and tears in the turf which cause injury to the players. Includes a survey taken of 56 artificial fields in New York City during the summer of 2011, noting that 25 fields, or 46 percent of the fields, were in a "serious state of disrepair, with gaps, tears and holes forming obvious trip hazards. At least 14 fields had minor damages, but without fixes, their defects are sure to grow worse." |
