Abstract/Contents:Addresses the remarkably high winter temperatures in the Midwest region in the winter of 2012 and the potential disease risk this phenomenon poses to turfgrasses. Claims that with snow absent, fungicides may degrade with exposure to sunlight and wind. Describes a study conducted at the O.J. Noer Turfgrass Research Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison which "looked to evaluate the degradation of the common snow mold fungicides chlorothalonil and iprodione under snow cover and in the absence of snow cover and to determine at what fungicide concentration Microdochium patch begins to appear." Suggests that "microbial or plant metabolism of the fungicides, governed by temperature, is the driving force behind degradation of fungicides in a winter environment." Provides tables detailing Iprodione concentration and Microdochium patch severity over time.
