| Abstract/Contents: | 1982 study to evaluate relationship of fusarium blight to density of nematodes. Soil samples for nematode analysis were taken from Kentucky bluegrass fairways at Griffin Gate Golf Course in Lexington about July 1. Fusarium blight disease had developed about a week before on some fairways. Four samples were taken from each of the following areas: 1) Fusarium blighted patches of turfgrass, 2) healthy turfgrass in an infected fairway, and 3) a fairway having no Fusarium blight. The nematodes Helicotylenchus, Criconemoides, Tylenchorynchus, and Hoplolaimus were extracted from soil samples using standard techniques. Numbers of nematodes extracted from representative samples were counted. Compared with soils in healthy fairways, Fusarium infected fairways (both within and outside of dead grass areas) had significantly fewer Helicotylenchus and significantly more Criconemoides nematodes than healthy fairways. Significantly fewer Tylenchorhynchus nematodes were found in dead grass of Fusarium blighted areas than in the other two sampling areas. Results are provided in a table. |
