| Abstract/Contents: | 1981 update of 2 tests to evaluate new Kentucky bluegrass cultivars under different management regimes near Lexington, KY. Test 1 was established 9/76 and consists of 30 cultivars with three replications each maintained at 1" and 2" mowing height. Three pounds of nitrogen per 1000 sq. ft. have been applied annually during the fall and early winter. In order to obtain maximum stress, the plots are not irrigated. Both a broadleaf weed and crabgrass preemergent herbicide are applied annually. Tables provide 1977-81 annual and 5-year average visual quality (1 to 9;9=best qualtiy) ratings for each mowing height with significant difference indicated for 1981. At 1 inch height, 5-year average ratings ranged from 4.6(Enprima) to 7.5 (Adelphi). At 2 inch height they ranged from 4.7 (Pennstar) to 7.7 (Adelphi). Test 2 was established in 9/80. This test is included in the National Kentucky Bluegrass Tests and includes 88 named or experimental selections. Variety differences in 1981 were minimal and are not included in this report. |
