| Abstract/Contents: | Test 1, established fall 1976, includes three replications of 13 varieties seeded at four pounds/1000 sq. ft. Three pounds of nitrogen per 1000 sq. ft. have been applied annually during the fall and early winter. Both a broadleaf weed and crabgrass preemergent herbicide have been applied annually. Since 1977, the height has been maintained at 1". A table provides 1977-81 annual and 5-year average visual quality ratings (1 to 9;9=best quality) with significant differences indicated for 1981. 5-year average visual ratings ranged from 3.8(NK-100) to 6.5(Derby). Test 2 evaluates Manhattan perennial ryegrass seeded alone and with Adelphi Kentucky bluegrass. Treatments are: 1) Manhattan alone at 1,2, or 4 #/1000 ft2 and 2) Manhattan: Adelphi (% by weight) at 10:90, 20:80, or 50:50 (all at 2 #/1000 ft2). A table provides 1977-81 annual and 5-year average visual quality ratings and for the mixtures, ryegrass tillering rate determined in 10/81. 5-year average ratings for Manhattan alone were not different regardless of seeding rate and were about 1 rating point lower than in the mixtures. 5-year average visual ratings were 6.5, 6.8, and 6.9 and ryegrass tiller percent was 94, 84, and 78 for the 50:50, 20:80, and 10:90 mixtures, respectively. |
