| Abstract/Contents: | Reports that many golf courses in and around Bangkok, Thailand suffered major turf loss and erosion following a series of floods in the winter of 2011. Notes that Bangkok sustains a minimal amount of annual flooding given the topography of the land and its proximate location to a major river, and therefore most of the courses are equipped with levee systems which unfortunately could not withstand the large volume of flood water. Compares the various species of turfgrasses used on Thai courses in regards to resilience and injury level. Explains that "damage to turfgrasses affected by floods is due to several factors including silt deposits, turf species, drainage, depth of the flood waters, and the length of time that the turf is inundated." |
