Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the difference between Continental and Mediterranean types of perennial ryegrass, suggesting that "there are real differences between ryegrass varieties that affect their performance and their suitability for a particular use." Explains that differing types of perennial ryegrass, depending on their place of origination, will have different growing seasons and degrees of drought and cold resistance. Details a trial meant to "quantify the clipping yield over winter of Mediterranean turf-type perennial ryegrasses for comparison with Continental turf-type varieties." Provides the methods and materials used in the study, as well as a table indicating clipping weight values for each cultivar. Concludes that "the Mediterranean cultivars had significantly higher winter clipping production compared to the Continental cultivars." |

Note: | Correction appears in Australian Turfgrass Management Journal, 14(3) May/June 2012, p. 7: "Australia Turfgrass Management Journal wishes to highlight an error that appeared in Phil Ford's research article - Winter clipping rates of turf-type perennial ryegrasses - which appeared in Volume 14.2 (March-April 2012) pp44-46. In the note under Table 1 on page 44, it states that 1mm of mowing yields around 500g/m2 of fresh clipping weight. That should have read 5g/m2. Phil Ford and ATM apologise for this error."
