Abstract/Contents:Plots were located at the University of Nebraska's John Seaton Anderson Turfgrass Research Facility, Mead, NE on turf established in May 1987. The turf was irrigated nightly for a total of 1 in per wk. DCPA was applied in late Apr for preemergent weed control and 2,4-D, MCPP, and dicamba as a postemergent in early Oct. Urea fertilizer (46-0-0) was applied Jun 9, Jun 16, Jul 19, Aug 25, Sep 21, and Oct 11. Nitrogen treatments were 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 lb actual N per season per 1000 sq ft. These N rates corresponded to 1/3, 2/3, 1, and 1 1/3 lb actual N applied per treatment date per 1000 sq ft. Plots were mowed twice a wk at a 1 or 2.5 in ht. The experimental design was a split-plot with four replications. Nitrogen levels were the main plot treatments and cutting ht the subplot treatments. Rainfall up to Aug was below normal with Aug and Sep near normal. Temperatures were near normal with intermittant hot periods during the growing season. The turf area was inoculated in May 1988 and again in Jun 1989 with R. solani in a vermiculite base. Brown patch was moderately severe across the turf area. Nitrogen level did not influence brown patch prevalence regardless of cutting ht. The highly significant F value for cutting ht within each N level indicates a difference in the response of the turf cut at 1 or 2.5 in to brown patch. Lack of significant N x cutting ht interaction shows that the response to cutting ht was the same regardless of the N level."
