Abstract/Contents:Introduces the "Disease Triangle", the interaction of a healthy host plant, an infectious pest, and a suitable environment, and further proposes a "Disease Pyramid" that also takes into consideration environmental and human-induced stresses. Reports that pesticide resistance is not induced by pesticide applications, "but rather is naturally inherent in each disease pathogen's biology," and that resistant characteristics arise from "repeated, uninterrupted use of the same pesticide mode of action." Stresses that surviving pests carry new, resistant genes and reproduce, creating more pesticide-resistance than before. States that turfgrass managers should use pesticides as the last line of defense and knowing the benefits and effects of many fungicide products is helpful. Concludes with resistance management tips, such as applying pesticides according to conditions, identifying any "chemistries proven to be 'at risk' for resistance" and limit their use, as well as rotating pesticide mode of action, and logging the effectiveness of the pesticide used.
