Abstract/Contents:"Two Lexington high school football fields were renovated with Derby perennial ryegrass on March 31, 1981. These fields were seeded in 3 directions with a Moore Uni-Drill (row spacing of 6 5/8") at a rate of 3 lbs/1000 sq. ft. Due to the late seeding and unusually warm weather, crabgrass began germinating along with the ryegrass. On May 8, different combinations of Dacthal, MSMA and Tupersan were applied to both fields (three applications each). The young ryegrass seedlings were not injured by the 2 x rate (4# ai/acre) of MSMA or by the preemergence herbicides. The young crabgrass seedlings were killed by the MSMA and when applied in combination with Dacthal, no significant crabgrass establishment occurred in 1981 and these plot areas were in excellent shape for fall games."
