Abstract/Contents:"Previously the most practical and useful wear machine for simulating winter wear under experimental conditions has been the studded roller. This however does not reproduce the damaging horizontal forces exerted in real wear and normally requires a separate power unit which may have adverse effects. A new wear machine is described which overcomes these problems and which also has a number of other features including the ability to carry out wear treatments of differing severity and kind. The principles involved and practical considerations of operating the machine are discussed."
