| Abstract/Contents: | Describes turfgrass research in Western Australia by commenting on the Turf Irrigation and Nutrient Study (TINS), which investigates critical soil and leaf tissue levels for phosphorus on sandy soils for both Kikuyugrass and Bermudagrass or Couchgrass. Discusses the partnership between the University of Western Australia (UWA) and turfgrass industry represenatives in order to form a "Turfgrass Industries Research Steering Committee," claiming that "relevant data on turf water requirements were not available to turf growers and managers to aid their irrigation decisions". Includes main objectives of the research, such as reducing water use, improving irrigation scheduling, and identification and introduction of turf with lower rates of water use or drought tolerance. States that a facility for turfgrass research was established 1997 at UWA's field station, providing infrastructure to study turfgrass under various conditions and management practices, including a travelling boom irrigation system." |
