Abstract/Contents:"BASF Corporation conducted an EUP program in 1990 with BAS 514 00 H for the control of grass and broadleaf weeds in turf. The national program allowed the usage on 107 hectares of turf in all areas of the United States. In the Northeast, applications were made in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Ohio. Over 40 trials were conducted on golf courses, commercial turf, and sports turf at 0.2 to 1.6 hectares per site. Application rates ranged from 1.7 to 2.25 kg/hectare applied postemergence in 24 to 220 liters of water per hectare. The turf species present at each site were usually 2- and 3-way mixtures of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.), Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.), tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) and fine fescue (Festuca species) or bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon Pers.) or bentgrass (Agrostis palustris Huds.). Application dates ranged from June 5 to August 15 for the initial application with subsequent application, if needed, made approximately 30 days later. Users indicated their evaluation of the control of each weed by checking the appropriate box labelled excellent, good, fair or poor. Injury to turf was very low to none. Good to excellent control of smooth crabgrass (Digitaria ischaemum Screb. ex Schweig.), large crabgrass (Digitaria sanquinalis L.), yellow foxtail (Setaria glauca L.), dandelion (Taraxacum officinale Weber), Veronica species, buckhorn plantain (Plantago lanceolata L.) and white clover (Trifolium repens L.) was obtained at the rates use. Some weeds not controlled were broadleaf plantain (Plantago major L.), prostrate knotweed (Polygonum aviculare L.), mouseear chickweed (Cerastium vulgatum L.), goosegrass (Eleusine indica L.) and nimblewill (Muhlenbergia schreberi J. F. Gmel.)."
