Abstract/Contents:"Growth regulators have been used in agriculture for many decades. They have also been used on turfs for a long time, chiefly to reduce the maintenance costs with fewer cuttings. Furthermore they are supposed to better the root growth and the general turf aspect. The growth regulator Primo Maxx® with the active component trinexapac-ethyl was at first developed to be used on sport turf. Regalis® with the active component prohexadion-Ca is another growth regulator, which is used among others to inhibit growth of sprouts in pomaceous fruits and also to compress potted plants. Based on its chemical characteristics prohexadion-Ca might penetrate faster in the plant and better inhibit the shoot growth than trinexapac-ethyl. Diverse experiments with Primo Maxx® and Regalis® have demonstrated that both of them must be used regularly and in close intervals, so that a reliable and steady inhibition can be achieved, Furthermore, both the weather during periods of application and the growth curve of the gramineae can greatly influence the inhibition effect. During the whole experimental period no positive effect on root growth nor on the general aspect were observed."
