Abstract/Contents:"The objective of this study by Niyi Ibitayo, Dept. of Horticulture was to determine the degree of cold hardiness which can be attained with certain warm season grasses in Ft. Collins. The following cultivars were planted: Pee Dee 102, Santa Ana, Tifgreen, Tifdwarf, Tifway, LaJunta, NEJC, Brooking, Futurf and Adelaide. The last two are cultivars of P. vaginatum. The results of this field test correlated well with artificial freezing test. Of the bermudagrasses, Brooking is the most cold hardy, and it was followed by NEJC. The group, Tifgreen, Pee Dee 102, and Tifdwarf are intermediate, while Santa Ana, La Junta and Tifway were the least cold hardy. The cultivars of P. vaginatum were not as cold hardy as the bermudagrasses, except Tifway."
