Abstract/Contents:"These trials, which were stared on 8/27/76, are similar to those on the Penncross. The Emerald/Penncross bentgrass in this long green is topdressed with sand once each year. Since beginning the topdressing program, the turf quality has improved. This long green, except for fertilizer trials, is fertilized 5 times per year (1 lb. N per 1000 sq.ft. per application from ammonium nitrate). Because of only an E-W mowing pattern, the green often gets shaggy and grainy. It should be noted that this green gets minimum maintenance - no pesticides, no aerification, essentially no verticutting, and mowing is normally on an every-other-day sequence. The green is all creeping bentgrass, and although some Poa annua was noted in a new seeding, none persists."
