| Abstract/Contents: | "The effects of wear must be considered in terms of the two components of turf - the sward and the soil - and also the interaction between them. The effects on the sward are immediately apparent in that plants are broken, crushed and scuffed, and biomass and ground cover are reduced. Less apparent are the damaging effects of wear on soil structure by soil smearing and more generally by soil compaction... Wear tolerance of turf is influenced by many factors including species and cultivar composition and environmental, management and edaphic factors." Goes on to describe different types of "wear machinery" such as the studded roller. |
