Abstract/Contents:"Water and chemical management strategies vary greatly within the turfgrass industry. This project has been designed to investigate the optimum levels of irrigation and chemical applications which result in successful sod production while creating conditions that minimize the effects on the surrounding environment. There are three components to the project: a survey of management practices and analysis of soil solution samples from across Ontario, ongoing monitoring of soil solution from six Ontario sod farms and plot research studying appropriate rates. Three research plots have been developed, at the GTI, which facilitate the comparison of fertilizer rates in conjunction with varying moisture inputs. The goal of this research is to develop appropriate, environmentally friendly recommendations for turfgrass growers in Ontario.
