Abstract/Contents:Provides an assessment from the Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI) of golf course greens from "data that was obtained when carrying out our STRI Programme [Program] golf green assessments throughout 2011. During such visits we measured the surface playing qualities (firmness, smoothness/trueness, and pace) as well as the underlying condition of the greens (organic matter, soil mositure content, and soil chemical analysis)." Provides the overall results of the assessments, and provides tables depicting the means for the results. Suggests that "we feel the reason we are generally suffering with high levels of organic matter under our greens is because traditionally we haven't worked towards specific targets and pushed hard enough to achieve them." Discusses organic matter reduction, emphasizing the potential importance of adopting a control plan.
