Explains that Ireland's alkaline rootzones and topdressing sands combined with a damp climate historically favored annal bluegrass over fine grasses, but improvements have been made in the management of fine turf-types making them usable in Ireland. Profiles a city parkland course, a new parkland course, and a links course. Details each course's attempts at managing different turf-types, and explains what did and did not work for each course. Mentions bentgrass control, traffic injuries, and soil moisture retention. Concludes that "essential to the success [of fine grasses] are good environmental conditions, good management, and often time." |
