Abstract/Contents: | Recent newspaper and television reports have attacked the home lawn care industry and left the public with the impression that pest management in home lawns is a time bomb waiting to explode. One must consider that many compounds, both those found in nature and those synthetically prodcued, such as pesticides, have been shown to cause cancer in laboratory mice. Much of the arguement against pesticide use on home lawns focuses on the fact that since this use is a nonfood use, it is therefore a nonessential use. Concerns for groundwater contamination and risk of cancer are two of the biggest arguements against pesticide use. This article presents a scientifically-based report on pesticide use on home lawns. |
