Abstract/Contents: | "This article is a performance summary for the major cool season turfgrass species evaluated in Raleigh. These fall seeded trials, with the exception of the bentgrass trial, were maintained at a height of 2 inches and fertilized with a complete fertilizer at a rate of 2 pounds of N per 1000 square feet per year as split applications of 1 pound each in September and February. The bentgrass trial was maintained at a 1/4 inch mowing height and fertilized at the rate of 6 pounds of nitrogen per year. All trials were watered to prevent drought. Each figure includes a listing of the top performers based on turf quality scores. (Turf quality is based on a 1 to 9 scale with 9 being best and 5 being minimally acceptable.) Not all commercially available cultivars were included in each trial; however, each figure includes a well known cultivar for comparison purposes." |
