Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted to "develop seed-propagated, cold-tolerant, finer-textured varieties for the transition zone; and to develop improved varieties for golf course putting greens, with emphasis on adaptation to southern coastal states." Details the methods and materials used in the study, stating that "bermudagrass populations bred for increased basic fertility were subjected to intense greenhouse screening for finer texture and density" and were then subjected to cold resistance trials. Reports that Bermudagrass progeny plants "showed wide variation in morphological traits and vigor and habit of growth, and in cold tolerance." Concludes that "the variation observed among these progenies suggests significant potential for selection."
