Abstract/Contents:"The test was conducted on a Maury silt loam located at the University of Kentucky Turf Center near Lexington. The turf was maintained at 0.188-in. mowing height and fertilized with 18-9-18 at the rate of 1.5 lb N/1,000 sq ft on 3 Oct 10 and 1.0 lb N/1,000 sq ft on 12 Apr 11. Plots measured 4 ft x 4 ft with 2-ft borders and were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Fungicide sprays were applied using a CO2-pressurized hand-held sprayer fitted with Spraying Systems 8003E flat-fan nozzles delivering 1.5 gal/1,000 sq ft. Treatments were first applied on 24 May, after dollar spot was first detected, with the remaining treatments applied according to the schedules indicated in the table (final application on 2 Aug). Where tank-mixes were rotated, sprays were applied every two weeks, with each tank-mix being applied once every four or six weeks. Visual estimates of turf quality were taken on several occasions and included deterioration of leaf color and density as well as developing leaf necrosis from brown patch, anthracnose, dry patches induced by fairy ring, copper spot, and several abiotic factors. Selected, representative data are provided because of space constraints. The level of infestation by P. annua was visually estimated 10 May, when color differences between the two grass species and the presence of P. annua seed heads facilitated discrimination. The amount of P. annua per plot averaged 33 percent and did not differ significantly between treatments. Data were analyzed using ANOVA (alpha=0.05) and Waller-Duncan k-ratio t-test (k=100). Weather was moderate to highly favorable for disease development. Factors affecting turf quality in the plots included brown patch, anthracnose, copper spot, drought stress due to fairy ring, and turf color and texture. Damage from dollar spot was not included in turf quality assessments. Signature + Chipco 26GT alternating with Signature + Daconil Ultrex, Renown, A16422A, A18035B, Headway and Tourney, consistently produced a higher turf quality scores than the control. As compared to other treatments, Signature + Chipco 26GT alternating with Signature + Daconil Ultrex, Renown, and Tourney provided better control of the complex of anthracnose/brown patch/fairy ring-induced localized dry spot. Signature + Chipco 26GT alternating with Signature + Daconil Ultrex, Renown, Tourney, A16422A, A18035B, and Headway controlled copper spot. At the end of the trial plots treated with products that did not control anthracnose and fairy ring showed more drought stress damage than plots that did control anthracnose and fairy ring. There was a mild phytotoxic response reported on A18035B on July 26, with a bleaching of older leaves."
