Abstract/Contents:"The experiment was conducted at the Valentine Turfgrass Research Center, University Park, PA, on a mixed stand of creeping bentgrass and annual bluegrass maintained as a golf course putting green, and mowed six times per week at a height of 0.125-in. The soil was Hagerstown silt loam with a pH of 7.0. Talstar was applied at 0.25 oz/1,000 sq. ft. on 10 Jun for control of black cutworm. Treatment plots, 3 ft x 6 ft, were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Applications were made with a CO2-powered sprayer, using a TeeJet 11008E nozzle, at 40 psi, in water equivalent to 2 gal per 1,000 sq ft. The treatments were applied on 21 May, 3 and 17 Jun, and 1 Jul on a 14-day interval. Dollar spot incidence (infection centers per plot) was assessed every five days from 26 May to 15 Jul. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and multiple comparisons of the mean values were made using the Waller-Duncan k-ratio t-test. Environmental conditions were conducive for dollar spot development by the third week of May. Disease development gradually increased through June and peaked on 24 Jun, at which time the mean number of infection centers in the control plots was 71. Many of the fungicides such as Emerald, Honor, Velista (0.3 and 0.5 oz rates), Torque, Insignia, Trinity, and various experimental compounds provided excellent control of dollar spot. Disarm C and a tank-mix of QP Tebuconazole and Foursome also showed good control. No phytotoxicity was observed in any of the treatment plots during the course of the experiment."
