Abstract/Contents:"The experiment was conducted at the Valentine Turfgrass Research Center, University Park, PA, on a predominantly annual bluegrass putting green with patchy areas of creeping bentgrass maintained under golf course conditions, mowed six times per week at 0.125-in. The soil was modified sandy clay loam with a pH of 7.1. Treatments were applied with a CO2-powered sprayer operating at 40psi with a 11008E nozzle. Treatment plots, 3 ft x 6 ft, were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications of treatments. Treatments were delivered in water carrier equal to 2 gal per 1,000 sq ft. Treatment applications were made on 1, 15, and 29 Jun, and 13 and 27 Jul for 14-day intervals. Talstar was applied on 10 Jun and 4 Aug at 0.25 oz/1,000 sq. ft. Anthracnose basal rot on only the annual bluegrass was evaluated, as the creeping bentgrass was asymptomatic. Disease severity was assessed on 27 Jun, and 2, 7, 12, 17, 22, and 27 Jul, and 1 and 12 Aug. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and multiple comparisons of the mean values were made using the Waller-Duncan k-ratio t-test. Anthracnose development was low throughout June, but increased substantially under prevailing hot conditions during mid-July. The first disease severity (Index 1-10; 0=plants asymptomatic; 10=>90 plants symptomatic) assessment date with appreciable anthracnose evident in control plots was 7 Jul, during which time Velista and tank-mixes containing Velista provided good control. Additionally, Endorse, Daconil Ultrex, and some experimental compounds provided excellent control early in the season. As the summer progressed and temperature increased, excellent disease suppression was provided by Velista, Daconil Ultrex, a tank-mix of Velista and Daconil Ultrex, a tank-mix of Trinity and Insignia, Disarm C and several experimental compounds. Plots treated with certain standard fungicides such as Medallion and Trinity also provided good disease control. The highest disease assessments were recorded on 1 Aug, when the control plots had a mean disease severity of 8.3. No phytotoxicity was observed in any of the treatment plots during the course of the experiment."
