Abstract/Contents: | "The fungicide captafol in combination with sequential treatments of a wetting agent and sodium hypochlorite was effective as a surface disinfectant against the fungi and bacteria associated with centipedegrass seed. Thiram 40% at 95.8 g/100 ml was also effective. No inhibition of seed germination or phytotoxicity to seedling roots resulted from treatments with these fungicides at the concentrations tested. A higher percentage of seed germinated iunder alternatint temperatures of 17 °C to 30°C than at constant 25 or 30°C. Germination was greater with 8 or 12 hr fluorescent light daily than with 4 or 16 hr or in darkness. Seed treatmetns followed by incubation at alternating temperatures with 12 hr light consistently resulted in a high percentage of axenic seedlings suitable for pathological investigations." |
